Standard Workshop

The Selecting Winners Standard Workshop is a one-day program that introduces you to a staffing methodology and provides you with the tools necessary to attract and hire great employees. We cover every facet of the recruiting and hiring process.

The program is very interactive and hands-on. You will experience a variety of learning modes including listening to an expert instructor, watching videos of the techniques, practicing the techniques and receiving personal feedback. Every tool and technique is designed so you can put them into use immediately.

Selecting Winners is a complete staffing system. At the heart of the system is our performance-based Success Profile. This document, which you learn to create during the workshop, identifies the key performance targets and critical requirements for your target position. Using our unique process, the completed profile will act as your roadmap to the successful person.

The workshop is broken into eight modules with each addressing a key issue associated with the staffing process. The modules are organized so as to mirror the process you will use in implementing your recruitment and hiring processes.

Overview of Selecting Winners Workshop Modules

Foundation

This module introduces the Selecting Winners Six Steps to Hiring Success model. The participants learn how past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. They learn how to successfully avoid common hiring mistakes. And finally, they learn how to channel their efforts to achieve the highest probability of hiring the right people.

Performance-based Success Profiles

This module covers the fundamentals of what it takes for a candidate to be successful. The participants learn to develop performance-based profiles based on your expectations for the new employee. They learn how to translate these performance-based outcomes into the critical requirements for the job. They learn to translate cultural and attitude issues into specific behaviors they can interview for quantitatively. By the end of this module, each participant will have completed a profile for the primary position that reports to them.

Recruiting and Screening

This module covers how to develop a recruitment strategy. The participants learn to analyze all the issues to pick the best recruiting sources for their organization. They learn to develop a Unique Hiring Proposition which gives them the best chance of attracting people who will "fit" in their company. They will discover a number of innovative recruiting techniques. And finally, they will learn how to read resumes and conduct phone screens to best utilize their time.

Preparation

This module covers two key areas. First, the participants learn how to put together an interview team. They will understand who should participate, how many people should participate and what each person should focus on during the interview.

The second focus area in this module is interview questions. Our unique approach to interview questions is at the heart of the Selecting Winners methodology. Your managers will learn the characteristics of effective questions, the six types of questions to ask, how to create effective questions, how to organize their questions, how to test their questions and finally, how to put them all together into an interview plan.

They will practice creating questions and receive individual feedback from the instructor. Each participant will leave the workshop with a cadre of effective questions tailored for their specific jobs.

Implementation

This module covers how to get the most form the face-to-face interview. Participants learn what is the best setting and how to put the candidate at ease. They learn how to maintain control and how to handle difficult situations. They learn to get below the surface and to make certain they are getting truthful information. Finally, they learn how to organize and manage multiple interviews.

Validation

Once you have gathered all your data from the interview you need to make certain it is valid. This module covers the specific steps necessary to validate your data. Participants learn how to conduct second interviews. They learn the fundamentals of reference checks. They learn how to get people to speak with them and they learn how to remove the bias from references. Background checks are discussed as well.

Decision

This module covers the specific steps necessary to make quality hiring decisions. Participants learn how to integrate all the data and evaluate against a standard. They learn techniques to minimize the subjectivity and make their decisions based on as many facts as possible. They are introduced to a matrix evaluation system that provides for a common language and system among the entire interview team. They will make hiring decisions with confidence and be able to back them up with hard data.

Quick-start and Resources

This module gives the participants a jump-start on implementing the process. They learn the most important things to do first and how to get the most out of the system. They receive multiple examples that they can use as templates. They receive a diskette, which contains templates for the key components of the system. And finally, they receive a comprehensive guide that covers legal issues related to hiring.
